My Latest Yarny Obsession

I have fallen in love with striped yarn! Every time I see a pair of stripe-y socks, I have to investigate….and, shhh, sometimes  wind up with a new yarn-y acquistion.  My recent stash enhancements include:

Vesper Sock Yarn in ShamRockin via  Knitterly Things

100% Superwash Merino  Wool, Self-Striping Hand-Dyed Yarn, approximately 428 yards per skein.

Heavenly Base by Fibernymph Dyeworks in The Roof is On Fire Colorway.

Aprroximately 435 yards 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon. Soo squishy!

Never having knitted with striped yarn before, I’ve been anxious to see what I get.  I’m working on a pair of socks and here’s how they look so far:

The stripes are working out nicely; although they appear to line up, there’s a little overage or shortage at the end of each color which doesn’t appear to be too noticeable. (I’m using size 1 needles with 64 stitches). I’m also trying a new to me technique: topdown short row yarnover heel. I’ll talk about that more in another post once I’ve finished the second sock.

String Theory Colorworks Yarn in Crab Nebula and Lacerta

Crab Nebula is in the Continuum Base, approximately 430 yards and 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon.  Lacerta is in the Resonance Base, 100% Merino Wool.

With all of these small, independent dyers, colors and quantities are limited so it’s best to check their websites and facebook pages for shop updates.  Fibernymph and String Theory seem to update mostly on Friday afternoons, so if you’re interested check out hop on over on the links above and check them out!

My knitting has slowed down a bit lately due to taking care of some much needed yard work.  So far, I’ve worked on the front porch:

I love my hanging Boston ferns and the porch is the only place where I can grow impatiens:

Last but not least, let me introduce to you our cat, Hercules. She is 14 years old and was very interested in the photographing process this morning!
